Tonya was born and raised in Mississippi. She attended undergraduate school at Mississippi State University where she majored in Kinesiology. She attended physical therapy school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and graduated in 2008. Since graduation, she has lived in several states with her two children and husband, who is active duty Air Force.
Tonya has experience in both orthopedic and skilled nursing facility settings. However, Tonya found her passion for pelvic floor physical therapy while working at OU Physicians' in Oklahoma City. She spent almost two years working in a women's health physical therapy clinic that specialized in the treatment of pelvic floor disorders. Tonya soon realized how many women were suffering in silence from conditions that are completely treatable. Through networking, she was connected to a mentor who encouraged her to treat members of the transgender community because they too were having difficulty finding treatment after surgery. Tonya wants to make sure that pelvic floor physical therapy is available to women and transgenders in a clean, safe, and encouraging environment.
Tonya is certified in dry needling and plans to become certified in pelvic floor physical therapy in the near future. She is an active member of APTA's section on Pelvic Health and Private Practice section as well as a member of Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and BNI Lagniappe. She is also the Chair of Community Outreach for Young Professionals Intiative. In her spare time, she loves listening to music and spending time with family and friends.
